The Laurel Spartan Band is the proud representative of the Laurel School District.  Located outside New Castle, Pennsylvania, Laurel is a predominately rural school system with approximately 1600 Students.

 

The band marches 66 members including two auxiliary squads, the Spartanettes and Majorettes. 

 

In 2008, at the Festivals of Music Competition in Boston, the band achieved the following awards:  Marching Band, 1st place with an excellent rating; Concert Band, second place with a good rating; Jazz Band, 1st place with an excellent rating; Spartanettes, 1st place with an excellent rating; and Majorettes, 1st place with a good rating.  Overall the band was awarded the Esprit de Corps Award from the festival.

 

In 2006, the band traveled to Chicago, where they again competed in a Fiesta-Val competition.  The band achieved first place in marching band, jazz band, Spartanettes and majorettes, and a second place for concert band.

 

In 2004, the band achieved "Grand Champion" at Fiesta-Val in Orlando, Florida.  This was the first time the band achieved this, the highest honor given by Fiesta-Val.  It is a real testament to dedication to practice and team-work!

 

The Spartan Band has received a number of honors, including: First Place, Clarion Autumn Leaf Festival Parade (five years), Superior Ratings, Fiesta-Val, St. Louis (2002, 2004, and 2006), and gold and silver ratings at the 3 Rivers Music Showcase.
